Sunnawente

What to Expect

As blessed Sunna wends her way through our lives, we are delighted to celebrate our 18th Sunnawente together

❋ Rituals

The morning will begin with a blessing of the participants in the Wihstaat. Anyone who is participating in the games is welcome to receive a blessing. We cover a spear with a “hand of Ziu”, a tasseled glove that represents Ziu’s brave sacrifice of his own right hand to the Fenris wolf. The spear is covered, representing a stop to fighting and peace among the people.

After the meal, we will make offerings of portions of our feast, name our winner of the games, and make toasts to each other and to our deeds.

❋ Games

Immediately following the blessing, participants will race from the Wihstaat to the finish line at the top of the driveway. Friendly competition to showcase our strength and skill gives us opportunities to build each other up and cheer each other on. This years games include:

  • Foot Race

  • Other Games TBD

❋ Feasting

There will be some “grab-and-go” breakfast items for those who arrive early, but we suggest having a hearty breakfast before you arrive.

After the games, we will gather in the Hall for a lovingly prepared feast. This year’s menu will feature:

  • Smoked Beef Brisket and Pork Belly

  • Homemade Ice Cream

  • Remaining Menu TBD

❋ Workshops/Vendors

Workshops are our way of sharing knowledge and skills with our community. We are also open to having experts from outside of our group to come and teach skills to us and our guests. This year you can take part in:

We love to encourage creativity and industry within the community, so we encourage crafters and artisans to bring items to sell, donate, or auction. Reginveg believes strongly in the gifting cycle, so we will have some items free with donation to our Building Fund.

Workshops

Workshops will be held throughout the day. Keep checking in to see if we add more!

  • Forest bathing is a wellness practice that originated in Japan in the 1980s. Forest bathers immerse themselves in nature with intentionality and slowness using all five senses. Ryan Ridpath will lead a variation of forest bathing for those who are interested. This practice will take no more than an hour.

  • Make your own custom bar of soap! A variety of scents and colors will be available and each participant gets a bar of soap to bring home. Kid-friendly with supervision. This activity takes less than 30 minutes, bars will be ready to take home within an hour.

  • Participants will be able to tie dye a bandana to keep. This activity takes approximately an hour or less. Bandanas should be ready at the end of the day.

  • Not really a workshop, but there will be an area with a kiddie pool, trampoline, and art supplies where kids can cool off and get creative. This area will be open to visit at any time during the day.

Featured Artist, Evie Cotton

Evie Cotton is a local Lenape artist whom we are proud to count among our dearest friends. She will have a variety of paintings and crafts available for sale and one special piece for auction. She has generously volunteered to donate a portion of the proceeds of her sales to Reginveg.
